Organic, free-range eggs — Year ’round!

We have eggs for sale. Our hens have free run of the farm, pastures and pond’s edge eating all the grass, bugs, worms and grit they can find. As we garden, they get lots of radish tops and greens, too.  A diet of fresh greens reduces egg size and productivity, but the eggs are at their tastiest. Ungraded because the hens don’t grade the farmers, either.

At this time, it’s best to e-mail a reservation for eggs so you’re not disappointed that they’re all sold out.

Things Green

We’re thinning the beets and beet greens are available now.

The baby bok choi is ready!  It won’t survive the heat.  Now is the time to enjoy it in all its sweet succulence.  There are two varieties:  Canton and Ching Chang.  Steamed, stir-fried or in a salad bok choi is listed among the healthiest foods you can eat.  (J Bowden:  “The 150 Healthiest Foods on Earth.”)

Platte City Farmers Market

Karbaumer Farm supports our local farmers market. We have a table there when we can.

Garden Gate CSA

Share Day 3:  This week’s harvest for shares should include green onions, new Carola potatoes, beet greens, radishes, lettuce and turnip and mustard greens.

Share Day 2:  Ready this week will be spinach, radishes, broccoli and mustard greeens.  Two varieties of that versatile baby bok choi are also at their peak:  Ching Chang and Canton bok.  The beets weren’t quite ready for thinning so there were no beet greens last week.  The lambs quarter just wasn’t succulent anymore, affected by early heat.  Your new potatoes from last week must be kept refrigerated—if you haven’t eaten them yet.

Share Day 1:  We will be harvesting spinach, lettuce, kale, radishes, lambs quarter, baby bok choi, baby beet greens and maybe another root vegetable as a surprise.
